3 KEY STEPS TO STAY SAFE IN DANGEROUS AREAS

Ask about the specific risks in the area.

If someone says we traveling to a “high-crime area” do they mean an area with many pickpockets or carjackers?!

Ask the 5Ws (who, what, where, when and why). The risks may also be described in a security plan for your area or operation (ask for a copy).

The more you know, the better you can protect yourself.

Make a Plan for each threat/risk.

Identify the steps you will take to avoid or reduce each risk.

Discuss how you will react as a team if it happens.

Visualize it – the more you rehearse it in your mind, the better.

Stay Alert

Actively scan your surroundings for signs of trouble.

This is a team responsibility; don’t leave it to others.

More than half of serious attacks occur while we are driving, so it is important that passengers don’t sleep or browse on their phones. The more eyes on the lookout, the better.
