GRAB BAG

Always Have It With You

You should always carry a small backpack of emergency supplies when you travel to the field. The contents of this “grab bag” will depend on your mission and location, but at a minimum you should have:

  • Water and food for an extra 24 hours

  • Warm clothes

  • Personal first-aid supplies

  • Personal medication for an extra 24 hours

  • Back-up corrective eyewear if needed

  • Hat and sun protection

  • Communication devices

  • Power supply to re-charge your communication devices.

  • ID

  • Some emergency money.

The bag should be small enough to fit at your feet in a vehicle.

If the bag is too big or too heavy, you won’t carry it around with you.

Always wear good shoes or boots,

You should always wear good footwear, even on short field trips.

If your vehicle breaks down or if you are caught in an incident, you may have to travel long distances on foot, run, or walk in difficult terrain.
